Description
The ‘I’ face-mount handle is a straight bar in hand-welded solid 304 stainless steel that fixes to the door surface, not through it, projecting 2″ (51 mm) from the door face, in 18 1/2″, 24 1/2″ and 30 1/2″ lengths (18″, 24″ and 30″ center to center). No thru-holes and nothing on the back face, so it suits sliding barn doors, bypass and pocket panels, and swing doors that must sit flat to a wall. Designed and assembled in Vancouver, BC; ships in 1–3 workdays.

Profile
Straight at both ends on a 1″ x 1/2″ D-section bar — the same section, projection, lengths and five finishes as the thru-bolt ‘I’, so a barn door and a panel-ready refrigerator in the same room can carry the same handle. The ‘J’ and ‘L’ face-mount handles offer a rounded or squared end on the same fixing.
Installation
Concealed surface fixing: the mounting hardware screws into the door face, with no fasteners visible and no holes through the door. Surface mounting hardware is included for doors at least 1″ (25 mm) thick; there is no upper thickness limit. Mark the center-to-center spacing from the DWG or PDF drawing in Downloads and check the 2″ projection against the track and wall clearance of a sliding door.
Care
Solid 304 stainless steel resists corrosion in kitchens and bathrooms. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap and dry. Avoid chlorine-based cleaners and abrasive pads on the coated Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White finishes. Check thru-fixings once a year and snug them if the door has moved.
Frequently asked
What is the minimum door thickness for the face-mount handle?
The surface mounting screws need a door at least 1″ (25 mm) thick to bite; there is no maximum, because nothing passes through the door. For thinner doors or panels 3/4″–2 1/4″ thick where a through-fixing is acceptable, use the thru-bolt ‘I’ handle instead.
Will the handle clear the wall on a sliding barn door?
The handle projects 2″ (51 mm) from the door face. Standard barn door tracks hold the door roughly 1/2″–1″ off the wall, so mount the handle on the room-facing side, or on the wall side only if the track’s stand-off plus any spacer exceeds 2″. Check the track manufacturer’s clearance before drilling.
Which length suits a barn door?
Most 84″–96″ barn doors take the 30 1/2″ handle (30″ center to center) for proportion; the 24 1/2″ (24″ C/C) suits standard 80″ doors and swing doors, and the 18 1/2″ (18″ C/C) suits narrow panels and wardrobe doors. Mount with the grip centred about 36–42″ above the floor.
Face mount or thru-bolt — which should I order?
Order face mount when the back of the door must stay clean or cannot be drilled through — barn, bypass and pocket doors, or doors with a panel on the reverse. Order thru-bolt when the handle bolts through a door or appliance panel 3/4″–2 1/4″ thick. Both share the same bar, projection, lengths and finishes.
Which finish should I choose, and will it match JWL cabinet pulls?
All five finishes — Brushed, Polished, Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White — are shared across JWL door handles, back-to-back sets and cabinet pulls, so one finish can run through a whole kitchen. Brushed and Polished are bare 304 stainless; Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White are coatings over the stainless. Order a hardware sample if you need to check colour against your cabinetry.
How quickly does it ship, and what is the warranty?
In-stock orders ship in 1–3 workdays from Vancouver, BC, to Canada and the US, with free shipping on orders over $500. JWL hardware carries a limited lifetime residential warranty on materials and workmanship; commercial installations are covered for 5 years on brushed stainless and 2 years on coated finishes.
