J-shaped Handle Concealed Surface Mounting
Typical uses range from interior barn doors, or any door type that restricts access for mounting hardware at the back of the door. Can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
The surface mount hardware allows for the handle to be fixed to the face of the door without having to drill through to the backside of the door. This is ideal for any installation where no mounting hardware is to be visible from the back of the door. The handle is fixed in place onto the mounting hardware with 2 secure set screws. Mounting hardware is included for a minimum 1″ [25mm] door thicknesses. An optional larger profiled escutcheon backplate is provided with each handle for a more classic looking installation.

How to choose
- Profile: I is straight both ends, J has one rounded end and one squared, L has both ends squared
- Length: 24 1/2″ is the common choice on an 80″–84″ barn door; 30 1/2″ on taller doors; mount vertically or horizontally
- Door must be at least 1″ (25 mm) thick for the set screws; no through-holes are drilled
- Optional escutcheon backplate is included with the mounting kit for a larger footprint on the face
- Five finishes match JWL cabinet pulls and thru-bolt handles

How does a surface-mount handle attach without through-holes?
Two threaded posts are screwed into the face of the door, the handle slides over them, and two concealed set screws in the handle lock it in place. Nothing shows on the back of the door. The door must be at least 1″ (25 mm) thick to hold the posts; no thru-bolts or back washers are used.
Will the handle clear the wall on a sliding barn door?
The handle projects 2″ (51 mm) from the door face. Most barn-door tracks hold the door 1/2″–1″ off the wall; if your handle is on the wall side, check that the trim, baseboard and track standoff leave more than 2″ of clearance or mount the handle on the room side only.
Which length should I choose?
For an 80″–84″ barn door, 24 1/2″ is the most common length; 18 1/2″ suits narrower closet sliders and 30 1/2″ suits doors over 90″. Mount vertically with the grip centered about 40″–42″ above the floor, or horizontally at the top rail. All lengths share the 1″ x 1/2″ bar and 2″ projection.
Which finishes are available?
All stainless handles and pulls come in five finishes: Brushed, Polished, Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White. The same five finishes run across cabinet pulls, appliance handles, door handles and glass door handles, so one finish can be carried through a kitchen, bathroom and closet without mixing suppliers.
