J- and I-shaped Handles – Back-to-Back Offset – Mounted on Glass Door

This page lists JWL’s two back-to-back offset sets for glass doors: the J+I and L+I sets, each pairing a J or L towel-bar handle on the outside of the glass with a straight I handle on the inside, set inward from the door edge, in 18 1/2″, 24 1/2″ and 30 1/2″ lengths. They are hand-welded solid 304 stainless steel projecting 2″ (51 mm) per side, fixed through the glass with M5 screws, washers and gaskets, for shower doors needing the widest towel bar with hand clearance.

L- and I-shaped Handles – Back-to-Back Offset – Mounted on Glass Door

The unique LI-OS series handles are commonly used on swing doors for showers or on any glass door that requires quality built handles.

Using the signature L handle in combination with the JWL straight D pull handle creates a unique geometry.  This geometry allows for the vertical handle to be inset from the door edge, giving more hand room clearance while maximizing the width of a towel bar handle on the opposite side.  A great solution to get the widest towel bar handle mounted on a shower door while maintaining comfortable hand clearance.

The handles are secured in place by M5 screws, washers and gaskets for a water tight seal.  The washers take the same profile shape as the handle giving a higher level of fit and finish.  Optional larger profiled escutcheon backplates are provided with each handle set for a more classic looking installation.  Included is mounting hardware screw lengths that accommodate a glass thickness ranging from 1/4″[6mm] to 3/4″ [19mm].

How to choose

  • J+I set: rounded J end outside, straight I inside; L+I set: squared L outside, straight I inside
  • The offset geometry insets the vertical inside handle from the door edge, giving hand room while the outside bar runs full width as a towel bar
  • Length: 24 1/2″ (18″ center to center) for most shower doors; 30 1/2″ (30″ c/c) for wide panels
  • Glass thickness: fits 3/8″ and 1/2″ (10–12 mm) tempered glass. Gaskets included. Holes cut before tempering
  • Optional escutcheon backplates; five finishes

Frequently asked

What does back-to-back offset mean?

The two handles share the same through-holes but are not mirror images. The J or L towel bar on the outside runs toward the door edge, while the straight I handle on the inside is inset from the edge. This gives the widest possible towel bar outside and comfortable finger clearance from the door jamb inside.

What glass thickness do these handles fit?

Back-to-back glass door handles are specified for 3/8″ and 1/2″ (10–12 mm) tempered glass, the standard range for frameless shower enclosures. Each set includes M5 screws, profile-matched washers and gaskets for a water-tight seal. If your glass falls outside that range, contact JWL before ordering to confirm hardware. Holes must be cut before tempering; do not drill tempered glass.

Which length should I order?

Sets come in 18 1/2″, 24 1/2″ and 30 1/2″ overall lengths with 18″, 24″ and 30″ center-to-center hole spacing. A 24 1/2″ set suits most 72″–80″ tall frameless shower doors; 30 1/2″ suits doors over 30″ wide when the outside bar is mounted horizontally as a towel rail.

Which finishes are available?

All stainless handles and pulls come in five finishes: Brushed, Polished, Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White. The same five finishes run across cabinet pulls, appliance handles, door handles and glass door handles, so one finish can be carried through a kitchen, bathroom and closet without mixing suppliers.

How fast do orders ship, and what is the warranty?

In-stock orders ship in 1–3 workdays from Vancouver, BC to Canada and the US, with free shipping on orders over $500. Stainless handles carry a limited lifetime residential warranty on materials and workmanship (commercial: 5 yr brushed stainless, 2 yr coated). Full terms are at jwlhome.com/warranty.
