How to choose

  • Thru-bolt: one handle on one face, fastened from behind with M5 bolts; for appliance panels, closets and pantries
  • Back-to-back: a handle on each face joined through the door; for swing, entry and sliding doors without a latch
  • Surface mount: set screws from the face, no rear access needed; for barn doors and doors with mirrors or panels behind
  • Door thickness 3/4″–2 1/4″ for thru-bolt and back-to-back; surface mount needs a minimum 1″ door

Frequently asked

Do these work on barn doors?

Yes. Surface-mount I, J and L handles fix to the door face with two set screws and need no rear access, which suits barn doors that run against a wall. Back-to-back sets also fit barn doors if you can reach both faces. Both project 2″ (51 mm); check clearance to the wall and track before mounting.

What door thickness is covered?

Thru-bolt handles and back-to-back sets include hardware for solid doors from 3/4″ to 2 1/4″ (19–57 mm). Surface-mount handles need a minimum 1″ (25 mm) door for the set screws. For back-to-back sets, the connecting rod can be cut for thinner doors within that range.

Which length suits an interior swing door?

On a standard 80″ interior door, 18 1/2″ and 24 1/2″ handles are the usual choices, mounted vertically with the center around 40″ above the floor; 30 1/2″ suits tall entry doors. All lengths project 2″ from the face and mount vertically or horizontally.

Which finishes are available?

All stainless handles and pulls come in five finishes: Brushed, Polished, Matte Black, Satin Brass PVD and White. The same five finishes run across cabinet pulls, appliance handles, door handles and glass door handles, so one finish can be carried through a kitchen, bathroom and closet without mixing suppliers.

How fast do orders ship, and what is the warranty?

Stainless handles carry a limited lifetime residential warranty on materials and workmanship (commercial: 5 yr brushed stainless, 2 yr coated). Full terms are at jwlhome.com/warranty.
